Fuel Cell Development Engineer
We are looking for a passionate and innovative Fuel Cell Development Engineer to join our growing Hydrogen & Fuel Cell team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced fuel cell and hydrogen energy systems, supporting projects from early concept development through system design, integration, validation, and industrial implementation. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment alongside experts in simulation, software, testing, and engineering to help shape the next generation of sustainable energy solutions.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and develop system and subsystem requirements, functional architectures, and system layouts for fuel cell and hydrogen energy systems.
- Develop process concepts, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), functional P&IDs, heat and mass balances, and operating strategies.
- Perform system modelling and simulation of electrochemical energy systems using 0D/1D methods to support system design, performance assessment, and optimization.
- Derive component requirements and evaluate technical supplier data for fuel cell stacks, balance-of-plant (BoP) components, and associated process systems.
- Support industrial plant engineering and system integration activities across mechanical, electrical, software, and control engineering disciplines.
- Analyze test data, correlate simulation and measurement results, and support verification and validation activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams involved in simulation, design, software development, testing, manufacturing engineering, and commissioning.
- Participate in technical design reviews, HAZOP and FMEA activities, integration workshops, and customer discussions.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, and customer presentations.
- Maintain and update technical documentation in AVL systems, including Integrity, AVL Powertrain Database, and AVL CRUISE M.
YOUR PROFILE:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable technical field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in systems engineering, process engineering, plant engineering, industrial energy systems, or related areas.
- Experience with industrial process plants, hydrogen technologies, fuel cells, electrolyzers, power generation systems, or similarly complex technical systems.
- Knowledge of requirements engineering, system architecture development, functional integration, and verification planning is considered an advantage.
- Familiarity with PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balance calculations, and process design methodologies.
- Experience with engineering and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, AVL CRUISE M, or equivalent modelling software is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and solution-oriented approach.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills in an international environment.
- Professional proficiency in English; German language skills are a strong advantage.
- Willingness to travel internationally for project-related activities.
