Service Engineer I

 

AVL is looking for a Service Engineer I to join our team!  

 

Are you interested in domestic travel and growing your experience in new technologies? The Service Engineer I is a great opportunity to grow and develop through experience with a variety of customers.  The Service Engineer I position is located out of Plymouth, MI with the AVL Test Systems, Inc. company.  This position requires experience in emissions (preferably gas analyzers) and/or a bachelor’s degree in engineering/equivalent.  In addition, the Service Engineer position is a direct customer interfacing role and requires strong communication, organization, & customer service skills.  Candidates must also be adaptable and flexible to schedule changes or adjustments as a long lead time cannot always be predicted.   

 

The Service Engineer I will receive adequate training from the AVL team to ensure success when active in the field.  The Service Engineer is responsible for installation, set-up, configuration, maintenance, and calibration troubleshooting repairs for AVL hardware and software.  The Service Engineer I will interface with a variety of customers and internal team members. 

 

***Travel expectation is 70-80% 

 

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis or qualify for a Canadian TN Visa.  Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position beyond a Canadian TN Visa.

 

 

ROLES:

  • Act as Liaison and company representative for customers
  • Perform at customer sites; test equipment installation, configuration, maintenance, and calibration to AVL specifications as defined through the AVL Qualification Initiative (QI).
  • Troubleshoot and repair products to AVL specifications following defined processes.
  • Professional and timely completion of service and commissioning reports and other administrative responsibilities as required.
  • Actively participate in developing one’s own training plan and exhibits ownership in completing training towards realization of selected diplomas and competency.
  • Provide feedback and improvement suggestions on troubleshooting guides and continuous improvement methods to increase operating equipment effectiveness (O.E.E.).
  • Generates calibration certificates, service reports and is responsible for evaluation and presentation of results
  • Perform Hotline support as required including the use of reporting tools, Helpdesk II etc.
  • The ability to communicate with customers in a professional way and in the ability to independently describe, categorize, analyze and solve service requests and issues.
  • Timely follow up on items and the ability to drive issues to closure. 
  • Complete all applicable safety training
  • Must be willing to travel
  • Other tasks as assigned

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience 
  • 0-2+ years’ experience in related field 
  • 2 years’ experience with test automation equipment preferred 
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
