Service Engineer I

 

AVL is searching for individuals with a strong work ethic and interested in domestic travel to join our team.  Individuals with an interest in automotive in addition to emerging technologies could be a good fit for the AVL team.  The Service Engineer provides growth; it is a great starting point at AVL to grow your career technically or into a different area depending on your career aspirations.  To qualify for this opportunity, a degree is not required, however, we would prefer to see automotive experience at a minimum.  If you are working towards a degree and are interested in this opportunity, AVL does provide tuition reimbursement to our employees!

 

The Service Engineer will receive sufficient training to help support success in this opportunity.  The Service Engineer I position is located out of Plymouth, MI with the AVL Test Systems, Inc. company.  The Service Engineer I will be responsible for installation, set-up, configuration, maintenance, and calibration troubleshooting repairs for AVL hardware and software.  The Service Engineer I will interface with a variety of customers and will be required to travel 50 to 75%.

 

Applicants must have the unrestricted authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

 

Roles:

* Act as Liaison and company representative for customers

* Perform at customer sites; test equipment installation, configuration, maintenance, and calibration to AVL specifications as defined through the AVL Qualification Initiative (QI).

* Troubleshoot and repair products to AVL specifications following defined processes.

* Professional and timely completion of service and commissioning reports and other administrative responsibilities as required.

* Actively participate in developing one’s own training plan and exhibits ownership in completing training towards realization of selected diplomas and competency.

* Provide feedback and improvement suggestions on troubleshooting guides and continuous improvement methods to increase operating equipment effectiveness (O.E.E.).

* Generates calibration certificates, service reports and is responsible for evaluation and presentation of results

* Perform Hotline support as required including the use of reporting tools, Helpdesk II etc.

* The ability to communicate with customers in a professional way and in the ability to independently describe, categorize, analyze, and solve service requests and issues.

* Timely follow up on items and the ability to drive issues to closure.

* Complete all applicable safety training

* Must be willing to travel

* Other tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications/Skills:

* Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent

* 0-2+ years’ experience in related field

* 2 years’ experience with test automation equipment preferred

* Understanding of electrical and mechanical processes

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
