Sales Support Specialist

MTI is looking for an experienced, motivated professional to join our Business Development team. The Sales Support Specialist is designed for a early-career individual. The person must have both a business mindset and a curiosity for technology — especially in mechanical or electrical engineering.
You’ll work closely with our sales and technical teams to support customer interactions, perform data entry and analysis, and help improve our business development process by managing multiple tasks. This position offers hands-on experience in a professional, dynamic environment where you’ll be empowered and encouraged to think critically, stay organized, and grow your skills in both business and technology all while working with real leaders in the field.

Roles:

Sales & Business Development Support

  • Support AVL’s Sales and Business Development team in daily activities, including opportunity tracking and customer follow‑ups.
  • Perform accurate data entry, updates, and quality checks in Salesforce, ensuring clean customer, lead, and opportunity records.
  • Use Apollo.io to enrich contact lists and support lead‑generation activities.
  • Assist with proposal development by coordinating with engineering and finance teams and learning to complete routine Technical Offer Releases (TORs).
  • Conduct bid searches across procurement portals (e.g., Merx, Gov.Biz) and summarize opportunities for pursuit discussions.
  • Maintain recurring sales and business development trackers, templates, and reporting tools.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Maintain the AVL team Travel Log, manage travel requests, and process approvals in Concur.
  • Track consultant time sheets, invoices, and monthly cost entries for the team’s balance sheet.
  • Keep shared drives, folders, and documentation organized with up‑to‑date project and proposal materials.
  • Support the President and Vice President of AVL with special tasks, assignments, and operational needs.
  • Adapt to evolving business requirements and assist with special projects as needed.

 Project & Data Management

  • Update and maintain project management templates for key customer programs.
  • Organize, analyze, and visualize data using Microsoft Excel, creating simple reports or dashboards.
  • Support routine software maintenance across Salesforce, Excel trackers, and shared templates.
  • Contribute to process‑improvement initiatives by collaborating with team members to identify efficiency gains.

Meeting & Communication Support

  • Attend assigned internal and customer‑facing meetings.
  • Capture action items, summarize meeting notes, distribute them to attendees, and follow up on progress.
  • Assist with preparing presentations, reports, and review materials for management and sales leadership.
  • Support customer communication by preparing materials, tracking follow‑ups, and coordinating next steps.

Marketing & Customer‑Facing Activities

  • Support the marketing team in planning and executing events, including occasional travel for shows or customer visits.
  • Coordinate leads and follow‑ups from events and assign them to appropriate sales personnel.
  • Shadow local customer visits and trade shows to learn the business and serve as a secondary point of contact.
  • Manage deadlines for memberships and ensure value is maximized.
  • Build customer emails and invitations using Salesforce Marketing Cloud and execute email campaigns.

Team Collaboration & Contribution

  • Participate actively in team meetings, sharing ideas and contributing to planning discussions.
  • Support cross‑functional collaboration with sales, engineering, finance, and marketing teams.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities as business needs evolve.

Physical Requirements: 

  • This role requires basic mobility, light to moderate lifting, fine-motor hand use, sustained sitting or limited standing/walking, and adequate vision and hearing for detailed and safety-related tasks.

Mental Requirements: 

  • The role requires quick compression, clear communication, sound decision-making, and the ability to organize work and analyze numerical data, ranging from basic tasks to handling complex information.
