Project Engineer I - Engine Calibration

MTI is looking for a motivated engineer to join our Calibration team. We are specifically looking for an individual experienced/knowledgeable in internal combustion engine emissions and OBD calibration. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 1+ years postgraduate experience in a relevant position. The Project Engineer opportunity requires a candidate with strong communication skills as this position will directly interface with the customer and internal teams.
Location of this position will be offsite at a customer location in Metro-Detroit. The home office is Plymouth, MI.

Skill Team Roles:
The specific roles of a Project Engineer in this effort include:
- Defines, plans, and performs engine, powertrain calibration and other relevant engineering project work within project team as required.
- Plans and manages engineering resources according to project requirements.
- Works on specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, preparation of specifications, technical plans, engine testing, vehicle testing, data analysis and validation.
- Supports/ensures data quality and writes technical project reports.
- Reviews project for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer requirements, including opinions and interpretations.
- Coordinates activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering test issues.
- Defines, executes and supports research and development activities.
- Participates in customer meetings.
- Communicates test results, progress and issues as they arise to project team and customer.
- Participates in powertrain calibration development trips as required.
- Other duties as required to ensure project success.
Experience and Education
-
- 0-3+ years’ experience required
- Bachelors’ degree in Engineering required
- Master’s degree in Engineering preferred
- Experience and exposure to Automaker Practices is beneficial
A Project Engineer is expected to have demonstrated abilities in the following areas:
- Technical
- A thorough understanding of Internal Combustion Engines and Powertrain related vehicle systems functionality
- A basic understanding of IC engine emissions controls components, After Treatment Systems and functionality.
- Powertrain Calibration development experience with achieving automotive tailpipe emissions standards.
OBD Calibration to achieve automotive OBD requirements:- Monitors

- EGR
- AFRIM

- Etc.

- In Use Monitor Performance (IUMPR)
- Ability to be effective in the following areas:
- Powertrain Calibration optimization to meet fuel economy and emissions objectives.
- Vehicle development trip support for hot weather, cold weather and high altitude.
- Ability to operate effectively in a professional testing environment.
