Dynamometer Test Technician I

The AVL team is looking for a Dynamometer Test Tech I to support our Operations team primarily in Ann Arbor, MI. We are specifically searching for support for our 3rd shift (10:30pm – 7:00am). The Dynamometer Test Technician I is expected to assist with the set-up of Engines, Transmissions, and powertrain components. They will be expected to operate the test cell and perform inspections, maintenance checks, and Unit Under Test swaps in the test cell per the supervisor or engineering’s instruction.
They may also support other activities related to lab operations including calibration, maintenance, forklift operation and general cleanup of the shop and test cells.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
Tasks for 3rd shift Request:
- Dyno/Test cell operation
- Test Cell = Performance and Emissions calibration cell.
- Minor engine work
- Basic maintenance – Oil change, Leak down checks, compression tests.
- Communication – will need to interface with the AVL engineers.
- Puma, Cameo, Indicom, ATI skills preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Performs test part installation and removal.
- Conducts and observes standardized tests following test parameters and, as required, obtains and records data or ensures data has been captured by an automated system.
- Troubleshoots problems encountered with test equipment or other items associated with conducting tests in field of specialization.
- Conducts routine maintenance and repair on equipment, test components, etc. following established schedules and procedures.
- Fabricates equipment and testing apparatus components following blueprints, engineering schematics, equipment manuals, handwritten or drawn notes.
- Uses PC to generate reports and to store and retrieve data, including inventory maintenance, and ordering procedures.
- Engages in safe work practices and advises supervisor on improvements to test equipment fabrication, installation, and operation to ensure a safe laboratory operation.
- Maintains a clean, professional, and organized work environment and appearance.
- Communicates test status and results with internal and external customers.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of experience in area of expertise
- Technical Schooling preferred
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Read and follow schematics; equipment manuals; blueprints and drawings; and sample preparation and testing procedures.
- Application of mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent housekeeping and organization skills.
- May require Associate’s degree or equivalent training.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, procedures, and equipment associated with dynamometer lab testing.
- Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Work under general supervision.
