AVL Test Systems Inc offers a job in the United States (US) as

Digitalization Intern

AVL Test Systems, Inc. (TSI) is looking to hire an entry level intern to support the project management team.  This is a learning position and is a strong contributor to a digitalization pilot program.

AVL is seeking a Digitalization Intern to support a 3‑month pilot focused on simplifying and automating processes. Ideal candidates are strong communicators with experience in process mapping, basic Python skills, and exposure to the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power BI). Candidates should be curious, self‑managed, and comfortable working in agile, fast‑moving environments. Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot is preferred.

AVL provides customers with innovative measurement, testing, and data management solutions.  As a leader in mobility, we continue to develop and grow our team in North America and globally.  This Digitalization Intern will work closely with the Project Manager to support the pilot program and will report directly within the project management team in Plymouth, MI.

The location of this position will be hybrid, with a majority of time being remote with some visits to the AVL office in Plymouth, MI as required.

The AVL TSI  team is looking to fill this opportunity immediately with the start date in the beginning of the summer months. Support is estimated closer to the 40 hour per week range.  In the fall months, potential flexible and reduced hours may be offered per project requirements and candidate availability.  This position is paid hourly with the eligibility to enroll in AVL's 401k.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in United States on a full-time basis.  Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

ROLES:

  • Contribute to developing simple digital solutions and automations using modern tools (such as Power Platform and Copilot) to help streamline processes and reduce repetitive work, while collaborating closely with teammates.
  • Work with different teams to help organize and structure operational data, supporting reporting activities, basic automation needs, and smoother information flow across the organization.
  • Assist in creating clear, user‑friendly materials — such as guides, prompts, and brief demos — to help colleagues understand and adopt new digital tools, while collecting feedback and suggesting improvements.
  • Participate in group discussions, process‑mapping activities, and problem‑solving sessions, sharing ideas openly and communicating well with team members and stakeholders.
  • Engage in collaborative and team‑building activities as part of an agile digitalization squad, contributing to a positive, supportive, and learning‑oriented environment.
  • Support general project tasks as needed, maintaining flexibility, curiosity, and a proactive approach as priorities evolve.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as communicated.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Currently in college working towards a Bachelor degree relevant to Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics/Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, UX/Process Design, Digital Transformation/Operations Management or related
  • High school diploma
  • Full-time availability through Summer 2026 months
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Clear verbal communicator — comfortable speaking up, presenting ideas, and asking clarifying questions.
    • Active listener — able to engage with stakeholders and understand workflow pain points.
    • Collaborative mindset — works well in small agile teams and accepts iterative feedback.
  • Process & Project Skills
    • Basic understanding of workflow/process mapping
(e.g., ability to diagram steps, identify decision points, find inefficiencies)
    • Self‑management and task ownership — comfortable operating with light supervision.
    • Exposure to agile methodologies (classroom, clubs, internships, or team projects).
  • Technical Skills
    • Low‑Code / Automation
      • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform components:
        • Power Automate (cloud + desktop)
        • Power BI (data modeling, building reports)
        • Power Apps (bonus, not required)
    • AI / Automation Tools
      • Experience using Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI assistants to complete tasks.
      • Nice to have: understanding of Copilot Studio / Copilot Agents concepts.
    • General Programming
      • Python competency (basic scripting, data manipulation, automation logic).
      • Exposure to APIs, JSON, or basic data structures is a plus.
    • Microsoft 365
      • Comfortable with Outlook automation logic (rules, foldering, categorization).
      • Strong skills in Excel, especially formulas/lookups; macros or VBA is a plus.
      • Understanding how data flows between M365 apps is a plus.
  • Analytical & Problem‑Solving Skills
    • Ability to break down a complex process into components.
    • Curiosity-driven approach to asking why steps exist, not just how they’re done.
    • Ability to propose simplification or automation opportunities.
  • Personal Traits / Mindset
    • Proactive and curious — willing to learn new tools quickly.
    • Comfortable in ambiguous or evolving environments.
    • Bias toward simplification — sees opportunities to streamline rather than recreate existing work.
    • Customer‑empathy mindset — can understand the daily challenges of stakeholders.
