Application Engineer

 

AVL Test Systems, Inc. (TSI) offers an expansive portfolio to meet our customers unique needs. From outfitting complete battery labs to component testing, we provide solutions to advance our customers e-mobility projects. We continue to deliver ADAS/AD solutions that help our customers create a safe autonomous future.  Locally, we commission equipment and tools, develop solutions, and create custom software. Our team provides: project management, test system engineering, service, support, manufacturing, and specification of solutions. 
 
Our TSI team is currently growing our Application Engineering team in Plymouth, MI.  We are looking for an Application Engineer who is experienced in emissions and open to domestic travel.  The Application Engineer commissions test systems and integrates subsystems to meet complex testing requirements while focusing on testing & application development.  This position will troubleshoot complex problems, interface directly with the customer and develop solutions with appropriate team input.  The AVL team will provide training and tools to help ensure success for the individual who moves into this role.   
 
*Travel for the position will be approximately 40-60% and will require travel to Canada at times.

Applicants must have the unrestricted authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

 

ROLES:

  • Act as a liaison and company representative with customers.
  • Commission test cells including:
    • Set-up and troubleshoot test and measurement systems
    • Implement and tune complex control loops
    • Integrate auxiliary equipment into test systems
    • Set-up monitoring and control of relevant safeties
    • Create commissioning documentation
    • Provide training on system applications.
    • Obtain customer sign-off
  • Write and implement custom tests.
  • Provide sales technical support.
  • Provide project engineering technical support.
  • Help desk consultation.
  • Develop and present training.
  • Travel required.
  • Other tasks as assigned
 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent 
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • 1+ years related experience required. 
  • Experience in test automation equipment preferred.
  • Understanding of instrumentation and electrical processes
  • Experience related to testing methods and applications
  • Able to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings.
  • Background in electrification (battery /eMotor / eAxle), testing or power electronics
  • Strong software adaption and modification skills preferred
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of PC operations, structure, MS Windows, and computer networking required.
