Application Engineer I

The Application Engineer I is a great entry level opportunity for a recent graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering to become part of AVL. The opportunity will be supported by a training program to help the individual adapt to the new role and ensure successful integration. This Application Engineer position is located in Ontario Canada as part of AVL's Canada division.
AVL TSI Canada is part of AVL Test Systems, Inc. and is looking for an Application Engineer I to commission test systems and integrate subsystems to meet complex testing requirements. In addition, the Application Engineer I will troubleshoot complex problems and develop solutions with appropriate input. Qualified candidates must be able to take charge of projects once on-site and drive to completion while working with a Project Manager to manage cost and time estimates. Qualified candidates must possess a strong work ethic with the ability to be flexible in the support of a variety of customers, a bachelors degree in electrical engineering is preferred. The Application Engineer I position has direct communication with the customer and ownership of large complex test systems; excellent customer service and communication skills.
*Travel for the position will be approximately 30%

ROLES:
- Act as a liaison and company representative with customers.
- Commission test cells or systems including:
- Set-up and troubleshoot test and measurement systems
- Implement and tune complex control loops
- Integrate auxiliary equipment into test systems
- Set-up monitoring and control of relevant safeties
- Create commissioning documentation
- Provide training on system applications.
- Obtain customer sign-off
- Write and implement custom tests.
- Provide technical support to the organization as well as to customers.
- Develop and present training.
- Travel required.
- Other tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
- 0-3+ years’ experience in related field.
- Experience in test automation equipment preferred.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical processes.
- Proficient software skills.
- Experience with emissions bench, fuel measurement systems and ECU/PCM controllers.
- Able to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings.
- Background in internal combustion engine theory and operation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of PC operations, structure, MS Windows, and computer networking required.
- Proficient hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
