Director, Business Development - H2 & FC Technologies
AVL Mobility Technologies is growing our team with a Director of Business Development focused on Hydrogen and Fuel Cell technologies in North America. This role will be responsible for the US Hydrogen (H2) based market development through acquisition of customer projects and technology/product management. Business focus includes H2 Internal Combustion Engines (H2 ICE), Electrolyzer Systems, and Fuel Cell (FC) both Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) and Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC). Primary areas of focus include but are not limited to, balance of plant, systems engineering, system integration, and stationary power systems and electrolyzer technologies. In addition, the position will set up long-term business relations with the customer base and drive new sales.
Qualified candidates will have experience with H2 &/or Fuel Cell technologies. This role will require account management experience and established networking capabilities outside of the mobility industry. The Director, Business Development position will primarily focus on developing business outside of the traditional automotive industry. Technical hands-on experience with H2 and FC is beneficial, however, not required for consideration of this position.
Location of this position will be located in Southern Caliornia.
An onsite work schedule will be offered for this position. This position will require 30-50% travel at times, based on the individual’s location.

ROLES:
- Creates business plans for the respective technologies and solutions.
- Coordinates middle and long-term planning based on market potential, dynamic, and roadmap with the Sr. Director Business Development and the Segment Lead for Electrification of MTI.
- Develops the market and implements the presales process.
- Implements the sales process with support from the future project manager and the Technical team.
- Develops customer profiles and applies the principle of strategic and Value Based selling.
- Obtains customer feedback.
- Maintains customer care during project run time in close cooperation with the Technical team.
- Updates business figures (order receipt, sales) and carries out target – actual comparisons.
- Works out and executes fiscal countermeasures in the case of deviations.
- Submits customer offers according to guidelines and makes consistent follow-ups.
- Reports out to management on contract award status.
- Supplies input to strategy team with respect to industry targets (markets, customers, products and competitors.)
- Provides customer and market status updates periodically to management.
- Establishes, cultivates, and expands positive customer relations.
- Achieves targeted guidelines for sales, orders received and planned contribution margin.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years’ experience in related field (H2 and/or FC) – mobility industry experience preferred.
- 5+ years' direct sales/account management experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated competence in communications and problem solving.
- Demonstrated ability to execute business plans effectively.
- Fast learner of AVL product portfolio and processes.
Compensation in CA for this opportunity is a min. of $130,000 + variable compensation.
