Legal Advisor
for Sales & Business Development Team
We are looking for a driven individual to support our dynamic sales and business development team. AVL UK Limited deliver high tech solutions to support the most advanced automotive, motorsport and commercial vehicle development programs. You will be challenged daily working on exceptionally varied and diverse projects in a team atmosphere.
At AVL UK ITS, we offer advanced technical solutions, then integrate them into the facilities and operations of our customers. The sales and business development team draw on the vast amount of experience from across multiple sectors, we work with demanding customers, and we are continually innovating new solutions or delivery mechanisms.
Our projects range from single system upgrades up to complete development facilities, working with automotive, formula 1, commercial vehicle and other high technology customers. Contract values range from tens of thousands of pounds to over £20 million.
General Description
To manage and coordinate all corporate legal contracts and matters, with the best interests of AVL.
Main Duties, Operational Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide contractual, legal advice and support to AVL colleagues.
- Draft and review AVL documents for Customers during sales and order fulfillment (OF) phases.
- Review Customer NDA’s and advise implications to colleagues. Prepare, negotiate and amend NDA’S (Customer and AVL).
- Write and negotiate AVL UK contracts considering commercial realities.
- Review and negotiate proposed Customer contracts, advise amendments and points of note, draft variations for change and negotiation before AVL order acceptance.
- Brief internal departments as to contractual obligations and responsibilities in delivering Customer projects.
- Liaise with AVL Graz Legal team where appropriate.
- Bring-in external legal assistance when necessary for contractual advice, redrafting, negotiation and contract formation. Scope including variations to AVL Conditions of Sale, standard engineering contracts (MF1 and NEC), construction contracts (JCT) and bespoke contracts eg Customer Framework Agreements including Statements of Work.
- Determine and arrange insurance and surety requirements for contracts outside the scope of AVL’s fit-out contracts.
- Bring-in external PM advisory services, architecture, structures, QS and external consultants for projects involving civil construction.
- Manage and coordinate import and export legalities, ensuring compliance with legal and HMRC guidelines.
- Arrange and manage all insurances for the business.
- Liaise with the finance team to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements.
- To carry out any other duties as reasonably required commensurate with the nature of the job and level of responsibility
Requirements of the Job
- Recognition of contractual risks and introduce mitigation.
- Able to communicate in appropriate form (verbally or written) with AVL colleagues and deliver concise, appropriately worded and structured documents.
- Ability to judge when external legal support is necessary to support contractual negotiations.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Experience of contractual agreements
- Commitment, flexibility, self-motivation and a passion for the role
- Minimum of 5years’ experience in a similar role
- Degree or equivalent preferably in law, or similar subject
