We offer the following research topic

Thesis - NVH Optimized Gearbox for Electric Drive in EV

Master Thesis

The rise of battery electric vehicles has increased the focus on noise and vibration, especially from the Electric Drive Unit (EDU). Low overall noise levels in EVs make tonal noises more noticeable, while high-speed, high-power applications introduce new NVH challenges. To address this, a reliable and efficient acoustic simulation model, including accurate gear contact modeling, is needed. The goal of this thesis is to simulate the NVH and correlates the EDU NVH performance the best with real hardware measurements.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Literature study of existing simulation methodologies
  • Developing a multi-body simulation model for an Electric Drive Unit Gearbox
  • Conduct dynamic simulations and assess their results in relation to NVH
  • Apply DOE and balance of NVH and Efficiency Target
  • Correlation of simulation outcomes to actual measurements

YOUR PROFILE:

  • Ongoing master studies in the fields of Mechanical-, Automotive Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics or similar technical field
  • Background knowledge in mechanical field (dynamics, gears, NVH,…)
  • Experience with multi-body simulation and FE meshing is beneficial
  • Fluent English or German language skill is essential

WE OFFER:

  • You can write your thesis independently and receive professional guidance and support from our experienced employees.
  • You will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts in the company and benefit from their expertise.
  • Take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of AVL and embed your theoretical knowledge in a practical environment.

The successful completion of the thesis is remunerated with a one-time fee of EUR €3,500.00 before tax.

You don't want to write your final thesis just for the books, then explore the mobility of the future together with us! Maybe you will be a part of it soon!
