Development Engineer Software - SCALE Project - PhD Fellowship f/m/d

The position is based on a funded European project which has a mobility constraint, so that the candidate must not have resided or carried out his main activity (work, studies etc.) in Austria for more than 12 months in the past 3 years. The Candidate will work on specific tasks of SCALE EU project. Therefore, it is a limited position for a period of 3 years.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The work will be focused on e-motors:
  • Physical modelling refering to both Eulerian multiphase models as well as Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) modelling
  • Turbulence and heat transfer modelling will be avaluated for oil cooling
  • Numerical methods will include an immersed boundary method in addition to the the standard body-fitted finite-volume method
  • Numerical novelties are also expected in the speeding up calculations by employing the fractional step method and certain VOF techniques
  • Input data will need to be provided for machine learning (ML) algorithm development, and the final ML algorithm will be compared against reference CFD calculations
• Documentation of developments carried out
• Cooperation with partners throughout the SCALE EU project

YOUR PROFILE:

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Physics or Chemistry with solid knowledge of Fluid Mechanics and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics
• Must be in the first 4 years of your research career, measured from the date of graduation (MSc degree or equivalent)
• Enrolled in a PhD program in a relevant field
• High sense of responsibility, goal-orientation and teamwork skills
• Communication skills, high readiness to learn
• Fluent in English, in oral and written form

Annual Remuneration: Due to the Austrian Equal Treatment Act we are obligated to state the annual gross remuneration (full-time) for this position as a basis for negotiation: €50.570,00. The Employee will be classified according to the Collective Agreement for Employees of Industry (Collective Bargaining Agreement of the Automotive Industry). We will, in any case, offer market-conforming payment taking qualifications and professional experience into account.
