Resident Engineer (Darlington)

 

 

We are looking for a driven individual to support our dynamic Service team.  AVL UK Limited deliver high tech solutions to support the most advanced automotive, motorsport and commercial vehicle development programs. 

At AVL UK ITS, we offer advanced technical solutions, then integrate them into the facilities and operations of our customers. 
Our projects range from single system upgrades up to complete development facilities, working with automotive, formula 1, commercial vehicle and other high technology customers. Contract values range from tens of thousands of pounds to over £20 million.

  

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

General Description

To be the primary contact for customer concerns and issues.

To maintain, repair, calibrate and service AVL or competitor equipment at the customers site based in Darlington minimising customer downtime. 

Main Duties, Operational Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line fault diagnosis and, where possible, carry out repairs to AVL equipment, in line with guidance from the HOTLINE Coordinator.
  • Perform calibration and maintenance of customer equipment, ensuring all work is fully documented and signed off.
  • Ensure calibration certificates and associated reports are issued to the customer accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Plan, track, and manage calibration and maintenance activities in accordance with AVL processes.
  • Maintain detailed daily records of all service and maintenance activities, and produce comprehensive technical reports upon request.
  • Utilise the e-case system to log, update, and escalate on-site issues effectively.
  • With support from AVL UK management and the AVL Skills Initiative, maintain and develop personal skills in line with the customer’s installed equipment base.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with both customers and colleagues. As the on-site AVL representative, consistently demonstrate a professional image and conduct.
  • Adhere strictly to AVL UK processes and procedures, contributing to the continuous improvement of the Customer Services Department.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in supporting wider AVL activities, providing assistance on related tasks within individual skill sets where required.
  • Work to deadlines and ensure all internal documentation is completed accurately within the required timeframes set by the Service Manager.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility.
  • Travel may be required for training purposes, including visits to other UK sites or international AVL locations.

 

YOUR PROFILE:

 

Requirements of the Job

  • Educated up to minimum of HND level in engineering (Mechatronics / electrical) or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • PLC experience a bonus
  • Automotive or Electrical Engineering background is preferred.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills and an ability to work unsupervised under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills with all levels of customer’s and employer’s staff.
  • Full Driving License.
  • Needs to be a Team Player and willing to accept responsibility within the role.
